John Ives from Financial Index was the night’s master of ceremonies and said it was an exciting opportunity for locals to view this unique exhibition.

Speakers on the night included local Anzac author Gary Snowden and Lambis Englezos AM, well known for his work on the subject of the Battle of Fromelles.

George Petrou also spoke about his paintings, which were based on the trove of photographs of Australian soldiers taken during WWI in Vignacourt by local photographer of the day Louis Thuillier.

The Hidden Faces of the Archibalds

Some of you may be unaware that this year I entered the Archibald Portrait Prize with a portrait of Lambis Englezos who was largely responsible for the recovery of Australian soldiers buried at Fromelles on the Western Front. If you don’t know him, google him. He’s a very interesting man.

The portrait wasn’t shortlisted but was later entered in the Victorian version of the Archibalds called “The Hidden Faces of the Archibalds”, which is now showing at the Hilton Hotel South Wharf. My portrait is part of that exhibition.
